What is dissociation?

"Dissociating is the experience of detaching from reality"

- Psychology Today

Identifying dissociation is crucial when healing any kind of trauma. Dissociation comes in many forms and can be subtle or very obvious. Some examples include feeling like you are telling someone else's story, being unable to feel your emotions in your body, or only processing or feeling your emotions from your head up. This will be one of the first things we cover in trauma therapy-particularly dissociation in relation to traumatic memories. This is especially important when using EMDR to process traumatic events.
